Can't wait until we take him on a tour of the box factory...
As an earlier bath post showed, John finds pretty random things hilarious. Well, here's more evidence. The good thing is, this time you can see his face and smile. Enjoy.

Going Private
After not much debating (no debating actually, I've just been lazy about getting it done), we have decided to make our blog only available to authorized viewers. I'm not sure exactly how this is going to work, but I suppose we'll all figure it out sooner or later. Sorry for any inconvenience to you blog stalkers out there (I know it is an inconvenience because I too am a blog stalker who hates being blocked when I want to know how people are doing but don't actually want to talk to them). So, I'll give you all until the end of November (if I get lazy again it will probably be the end of December) to post a comment with your email address to let us know you want to be on our list of keepers. If not, you'll only be missing out on the daily progress of the cutest 1/4 Asian boy in the entire world.
I know this post is pretty boring, so for those of you who only check our blog to see pictures of John, here are a couple to keep you going until our next blog (but don't forget to check the video posted a few days ago of John and his love for peas).

This picture was taken after a nap. I know his eyes are a little crazy (after all, he just woke up), but I had to post this anyway because I think it's cute and because of his hair "flaps". I don't know if you can even see them, but they are there. And how great is it for Mommy and Daddy that this is how happy he ALWAYS wakes up (except at night or in strange places)?

John crawled under one of the camping chairs. I wondered as I saw him climbing through a small triangle if he would be able to make it out by himself. Turns out he couldn't and while he doesn't look unhappy in this picture, he is and was until I got him out.

John LOVES his peas...
Here's a fun video from dinner tonight. John loves peas so much his hands shake and his feet flail when they are in sight.

Splish Splash
I know we just posted the Halloween pictures, but this was too cute to not post. The original video was too large a file to be uploaded so we are trying to use our ludicrously slow and unreliable video editing software to cut it to just below the maximum size. In the mean time, here's a much shortened video showing how much John loves bath time:
Now raise your hand if you were honestly able to watch that without laughing. If so, seek medical help... :)

Halloween and other stuff
Sorry it's been a while since the last post but time flies when you're having fun. Everything's been going well at the Jackson homestead. Not too much to report but tons of great pictures and videos (unfortunately only a few can be posted here).

I wanted John to go with Daddy on his trip to D.C., but we think the airline (or child protective services) would have objected.
Here's John in his first Halloween costume. He was a zebra.

Out Little Sweet Potato Mozart and 6 month stats
So much has been going on, we thought we should post before it got to be too much. The oldest of our unposted developments was a new addition to our home- a piano! We got it at a school that has annual piano sales at a great price and John is loving it!
He actually likes the music books more than the piano, but I think he's learning to appreciate the piano. Now he gets excited when he sees it and only tries to eat the keys about every other time.
Another somewhat recent development is John learning to sit up without support. He has been sitting up for about a month now, but only two days ago he started actually getting into the sitting position from lying on the ground without help. What a big boy!
A few weeks ago John's doctor suggested that we give him some solid foods. John was so excited that he wanted to feed himself!

Road Trip!
We completed the marathon road trip a week ago. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience ... mainly because we will never drive that much in that short of a time period with a five-month old again. John actually did very well considering the sheer amount of car time. I think we asked too much of him and he still cried VERY little ... he just kind of whined about 50% of the time.
We first went to Gardnerville where Grandma Sherri and Grandpa Ken got to spend some quality time with John (we were there, too). We had a lot of fun and even got to catch up with the Roches, some of our best friends from law school. We also met the members of the Walker Branch, which was a lot of fun. In a not-too-surprising trend that would endure throughout the trip, John was the star of the show.

We then drove to Reedley to be with Dani's family. We wanted to drop by SF but Val and Gordon were in Vegas. Instead we went straight to Reedley and, as expected, Grandma Phillips flipped over seeing her "shao-pan-zuh" again. (Rough translation: "little chub.") We had a great time. I actually played some basketball with Dani's dad and brothers (first time in a couple years at least) and Dani jogged. John really liked Grandma's chickens: he loved watching them mill around looking for food or run up to us as we walked out the door. John also got to meet his uncle Farrell, who had not yet seen him in person. This part of the trip also gave us a chance to introduce John to the piano (more on this in a later post).
Next we headed down to the LA/OC crowd. We first dropped off in Santa Clarita to see Great Grandma Cascio. We went to lunch (where strangers practically begged to see John) and Grandma even let Dani take a much needed and well-earned nap. Grandma seemed very pleased that we had named our boy John, partly after her late husband and my Grandpa John Cascio. She said that he was probably smiling down on little John. I agree.
We then went to see the Valley peeps. We dropped off at Christina's place and hung out there for a while. Then Christina treated us to dinner with Kate, Bobby, and Gordy. It was a fun time. William got to see John briefly but Nathaniel wasn't there. Kate got to see John a little but didn't experience what I call his "full repertoire of cuteness." We spent the night at Val's condo in Woodland Hills (thanks, Val!) and then set off for UCLA the next morning.
John was surprised at how much Mommy and Daddy's alma mater has changed in a few short years. He was excited to see how much construction and development has taken place in the biological sciences section of campus. I think he could feel a sense of excitement as Mommy and Daddy showed him their favorite parts of UCLA and he really likes the cute onesie we grabbed him at the UCLA store. John also really liked seeing the UCLA Institute, where Mommy and Daddy met.
Before leaving LA for Laguna we dropped by the LA temple to show John where Mommy and Daddy were married. We ate our lunch and strolled around part of the grounds. I love that temple; it will always be "my temple."
We next went down to Laguna Woods to introduce John to Great Grammy Jackson. As with everyone else who meets John, she was struck with how handsome and fun he is. He sat in her lap and they had a lot of fun together. We ate a delicious dinner she prepared for us and talked about family until (for us) late into the night. We were able to make a brief run to the beach to introduce John to the ocean. He was a little skeptical at first due to all the noise and motion, but eventually seemed to like it. We put his feet in the water, which he also got used to after a while. We vowed to find a way to get him substantial beach time every year.
The next morning we started the longest single driving day of the trip, which through poor planning on my part was also the last. We dropped by Dani's aunt and uncle's place in Tustin. James and Monica and Anya, AJ and Zach enjoyed seeing John. I'm not so sure the family enjoyed being awakened by our call at 7:45am on a Saturday morning. Unfortunately Luke and Emily were not at home.
The drive home was very long and the stop in Vegas further cemented my determination to only move there if Baghdad is full. John was again quite the trooper, especially since he was in that car seat for nearly eleven hours! We finally arrived home late Saturday night and basically slept all of Sunday. The trip was great, but we went and forgot to take pictures for most of it. Here are a couple we did take, with apologies to those (especially Great Grandma Cascio) who do not appear. In the next post we'll have some neat updates and other exciting developments.

Fever's Gone... and Cute Pics!
So in case you haven't guessed, John's fever resolved within a day of our last post. He is doing great and we have some really fun photos of him for you below.
We are getting ready for the Jackson Family road trip (which way to Wally World?). Since John has recently decided he hates riding in the car, it should be an adventure. In fact, as a warning, if he cries all the way to Wendover we are turning back... no joke.
Enough jibber-jabber... here are the pics!

Just the other day John discovered that he is big and strong enough to look over his crib railing and into our bed. Now it's all he does...
He's this close to escaping.
To those who know Dani and I and our sleeping habits, this photo should look familiar. We each have a body pillow and find it difficult to sleep without one. I guess John took equally from Mommy and Daddy here.
I can see him at Pauley Pavilion now...
Just plain cute... nuff said!

John hasn't got time for the pain
John had his 4 month appointment yesterday. His stats are as follows:
Weight: 16lbs 14oz (85%)
Height: 25.5in (75%)
Head: ? (55%)
So I guess he got Daddy's smallish head. He surpassed the "goal" of doubling his birth weight (which was 8lbs 3oz). The doctor said he looks great (duh!) and is developing very well.
Then came the dreaded shots! He cried pretty badly for a few seconds (couldn't catch his breath) but then settled down quickly. However, he was cranky most of the rest of the day and is currently running a fever (which we are watching very closely because I'm paranoid). Today was better from a pain standpoint, as the following pictures and video demonstrate, though the fever has not yet abated.

He's developing a very cute laugh.
He's reluctant to give it out, but when he does it's worth the wait:
